Vistara, a joint venture of Tata group and Singapore Airlines, on Tuesday announced it would operate special, non-stop flights between Delhi and Bangladesh’s capital city, Dhaka, from November 5, 2020.

Vistara’s announcement comes a day after budget carrier SpiceJet said it will operate flights to Dhaka and port city Chittagong from India from November 5, using bilateral traffic rights under the Air Bubble Agreement.

The route will be operated using an Airbus A320neo aircraft on Thursdays and Sundays, as part of the bilateral ‘transport bubble’ formed between India and Bangladesh. Bookings are being progressively opened on all channels, including Vistara’s website, mobile app, and through travel agents.

Mr. Leslie Thng, Chief Executive Officer, Vistara, said: “We are glad to be able to consistently expand our international network and widen our global presence, despite the current challenging times.”

The Vistara CEO observed that there was significant pent up demand for air travel between India and Bangladesh, and the resumption of flights brings relief to the traders, business communities and other regular travellers in the two countries.

“We are confident that our customers will find great value in choosing to fly India’s finest airline, Vistara, which is trusted by millions of people for its operations, safety standards, and service excellence,” Mr. Thng said.

Vistara will also operate a daily flight between Delhi and London with effect from December 1. The airline currently operates four flights a week between the two cities. It will increase the frequency of five weekly flights from November 21.

The additional frequency from Vistara comes at a time when SpiceJet is also gearing up to launch Delhi-London flight. SpiceJet will operate two flights a week between Delhi and Mumbai from December 4. While SpiceJet plans to deploy a leased an A330neo on the route, Vistara has deployed its Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
