So you’re finally set to go on that trip to the United States of America, you’ve shopped your holiday wardrobe, touched up those highlights, the dieting worked wonders and you are all ready to set ablaze your instagram page, but wait a second, you forgot something !! Whatabout your skin! You definitely want to stay glowing throughout your trip, how else are you going to take that no filter selfie.
Please don’t wait for the last day, go in for that indulging trip to the Salon atleast 4 days prior to getting into that capsule known as an airplane. Long flights are known to make your skin dry and dehydrated, now while we can’t help with the duration of your journey, we can definitely share some tips to minimise the skin damage and help keep your skin velvety smooth through your 16 hour flight, so that you land looking like a peach.
A few days before your flight – go in for a luxurious moisturising facial treatment which should include a steam and a massage. This will help improve blood circulation and destress the skin. Do it a few days before so even if your skin is sensitive and prone to flare ups there is enough time for it to settle down before the flight.
Exfoliating thrice a week, helps take off dead cells from the top epidermal layer allowing the the new, healthy cells to hydrate with better absorption of the serum and moisturizer. The night before your flight follow the Exfoliating process with a 10 minute massage using a beauty oil mixed with vitamin E or jojoba oil, this will help improve circulation and bring oxygen and nutrients to the surface. Complete this with a moisturizing mask, let your skin breathe in the night after this process.
The sensitive skin around the eyes needs both, the moisture and hydration. Use your day and night eye creams liberally following label instructions perfectly to the ‘T’ for satisfying results.
We know you’ve heard it a million times before but a daily routine of CTM “cleansing, toning and moisturizing” is a basic skin care routine you cannot omit. If you don’t do it, its never too late to start, please do not miss this step however cumbersome it may seem. Start your day by misting your face with a toner and soap free cleanser which will not strip the natural oils and maintain the ph balance of your skin.
Increase your water intake, guzzling 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday is a great habit which helps your skin too. Just as our body needs daily nourishment, the skin needs its Skin Food to keep the skin soft, supple, glowing and healthy.
You have done a great skin care job before your flight and the day to travel has finally arrived. Hot water promotes dehydration of the skin, so use cold water when you begin your CTM. The role of the toner is to take away the residual effect of the cleanser and prepares your skin to absorb the serum and moisturizer. Now comes a double layering of activating serum. Let this sit on your skin for a few seconds and then apply your moisturizer which melts down into your skin making it soft as silk. Nourishment done, now prime the skin with a satiny primer creating a seamless canvas if you plan to use makeup before your flight, but any powder or compact is a big ‘no no ‘ before your flight.
Your skin will loose a lot of moisture on the flight and moisturize depletion on an already dry and dehydrated skin can make it look dull and tired. These days aircrafts do have humidifiers which replenish the hydration in the air when you travel but your dry skin needs much more. Now to prevent moisture loss during the flight , after a few hours of flying, mist some toner on your face and apply your creamy moisturizer, as it helps damp the skin, seals and traps the moisturizer in, thus keeping your skin hydrated longer.
Once again post dinner on your flight remember to apply hydrating serum and the moisturising cream on the face, neck, and lips before you snuggle in to sleep.
Just before landing into your destination, repeat your CTM routine and finish with a sunscreen.
