United Airlines has announced the launch of seven new long-haul routes to India, Hawaii and Africa, while adding four new destinations to its route network and expanding existing services to three cities from winter 2020.

The largest US carrier to fly between the US and India with flights to Delhi and Mumbai, United is now expanding its presence here.

As a part of the plans, United is going to operate a daily Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from Chicago O’Hare to New Delhi while trying to leverage its connections plus the second-highest population of Indian Americans in the US that live in Chicago and the surrounding areas, Simpleflying reported. The service will be introduced from December 2020.

Eyeing the IT industry in Bengaluru, United will launch a daily 787-9 flight to San Francisco starting in spring 2021. This will precede American Airlines which has planned a Seattle to Bengaluru flight from winter 2021. San Francisco is already connected to New Delhi by United.

Speaking on the new routes, Patrick Quayle, United’s Vice President of International Network and Alliances, stated the following: “Now is the right time to take a bold step in evolving our global network to help our customers reconnect with friends, family and colleagues around the world. These new nonstop routes provide shorter travel times and convenient one-stop connections from across the United States, demonstrating United’s continued innovative and forward-looking approach to rebuilding our network to meet the travel needs of our customers.”

In Africa, United will fly from its East Coast hubs of Washington-Dulles adding three weekly flights each to Accra in Ghana and Lagos in Nigeria. This will be a comeback for United on the Accra-Washington route which it operated about a decade ago. The airline also flew to Lagos from Houston till 2016.

Flights from Newark to Johannesburg in South Africa will also begin in Spring 2021
