Everyone follows a routine at the gym, back, shoulder, chest, legs, arms, and abs. It’s the same routine every day and eventually stops having an effect on the body. If there is no change in any external conditions, the body reaches a sense of equilibrium, when we follow a fixed routine the muscles get used to the same impact and type of muscle activation and start resisting growth. So let’s stop wasting our time and give our body a shock workout, our bodies adapt very quickly, let’s activate the muscles for explosive growth. The solution for stagnation is supersets and drop sets.
Supersets are an aggregate of workout combining two or more exercises, and the sky’s the limit if your muscles survive the pounding. Let’s break it down this way, say the plan is to train the back muscles and we have five exercises on the board. A superset would be completing one training with its reps., then moving on to the next activity without any break until the last exercise can be performed with all its reps., and that’s defined as one set. The workout might sound extreme, but is rewarding too. It’s brutal and intense and will activate every fibre of that muscle group to a wake-up growth call.
Now, drop sets on the other hand are the bigger cousin of the superset. The goal is to perform one exercise with pre-set weights and reps until the last rep failure. Now drop some weights and repeat the same set until the previous repetition collapses, this process continues till the bar or the weight stack has been stripped off all its weight. The last group would be as low as an empty bar or empty stack in the machine, trust the process. It will hurt to move as the muscles are fully exhausted and pumped to exhaustion.
Try and incorporate one of these every week into your workout routine, feel the growth, and unlock your body’s true potential.
