A) A cockpit was the pit in which cocks battled, in layman terms a place where the battles/ fights took place, by analogy, World War I pilots referred to their cramped compartments where they had to work as cockpits.

A) The control stick was developed by a man whose last name was Joyce and was originally called Joyce Stick, which became foreshortened by use to ‘Joystick’.
