In a sad and bizarre incident, 38 french bulldogs were found dead on a Ukranian International Airlines flight from Ukraine to Toronto Pearson Airport, Canada.
The Ukrainian Airline issued a statement saying “condolences for the tragic loss of animal life on our flight”
The shipment was of 500 French Bulldog puppies that were being transported to Canada, for trade and sale, as they are very popular there and fetch really high prices. As per estimates a French Bulldog puppy is sold anywhere between $3000 to $4000 each!
While this has sent shocks across the globe amongst pet lovers, the world has also realised that not all breeds can actually withstand the long journeys in confined conditions. The other puppies that survived showed symptoms of weakness, dehydration and vomiting as per the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
The CFIA also gave a statement to the Canadian Broadcaster CBC saying “CFIA officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and will determine the next steps once the investigation is complete.”
Abby Lorenzen, a dog handler who happened to be at the scene, described the incident as a “horror scene and a nightmare ” she said, “Canada and the federal government need to change the laws on the importation of these puppies.”
In a related incident, Tommy Fury, the reality tv actor from Love Island, reported the death of his Pomeranian puppy a few days after it landed from Russia.
Probably stricter norms are the need of the hour to save the lives of these lovable pups.
